Ghost World

2001 · TMDB 7.1

Directed by Terry Zwigoff

Two quirky, cynical, teenaged girls try to figure out what to do with their lives following high school graduation. After they play a prank on an eccentric, middle-aged record collector, one of them befriends him, which causes a rift in the girls’ friendship.

Why it matters

Thora Birch's Enid is a sharp-tongued outsider who refuses the script of post-high-school life. Terry Zwigoff's adaptation of Daniel Clowes's comic is a wry, melancholy portrait of refusing to grow up on anyone's terms but your own.
