Romeo and Juliet
1968 · TMDB 7.4
Directed by Franco Zeffirelli
Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet fall in love against the wishes of their feuding families. Driven by their passion, the young lovers defy their destiny and elope, only to suffer the ultimate tragedy.
Why it matters
Franco Zeffirelli's version cast actual teenagers in the leads and shot in real Italian hill towns, trading theatricality for heat, dust and the physical awkwardness of first love.
