You Were Never Really Here
2017 · TMDB 6.5
Directed by Lynne Ramsay
A traumatized veteran, unafraid of violence, tracks down missing girls for a living. When a job spins out of control, Joe's nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered—leading to what may be his death trip or his awakening.
Why it matters
Lynne Ramsay's thriller about a traumatised enforcer is a masterclass in sound design and fractured perspective, with Joaquin Phoenix carrying the film's entire weight. It is a genre picture that refuses to behave like one.
