Gregory's Girl
1980 · TMDB 6.8
Directed by Bill Forsyth
A teenager falls hard for the female soccer player who has replaced him on the team and attempts to pursue her.
Why it matters
Bill Forsyth's debut feature follows a gangly teenager in love with a girl who is better at football than he is. The film's genius is its deadpan observation of adolescent awkwardness, with every pause and misstep played for truth rather than punchline.
